Thanks for sharing the iherb.com website. I ordered some stuff for acne, nothing over the counter will work and I'm not albe to get perscriptions filled yet so maybe homeopathic stuff will help.

And I've been absent from the comments for a little while. :( I'm graduating from tech school this Wednesday then I'll be home for a little while.

I'm gonna go work on catching up on the last few episodes.

sluuuuuuuuuuggggg!!! i had an offline discussion w/camme on da slug eyes. those things, the little balls at the tip of the appendages, are slug eyes. i didn't know slugs had eyes. camme told me.

i'd only touch a slug by accident.

you can cut a slice off the side of a shiitake mushroom cap and make it look like a slug when the mushroom is cooked. very authentic. then you can gross people out by pulling it off a leaf of lettuce and eating it whole. chew chew chew!

hahahah!!! that slug story had me laughing out loud while i was driving! made the drive THAT much better.

    happy aloha monday, everyone!!

    Welcome back Mary K. You've been missed : ).

I also wanted to give a healthy shout out to our LMIT (Bonnie). It is now LMIT-"Little Mama in Therapy" following the right knee surgery...many pain free, healing, flexible, bendy thoughts in your direction...

slugs!!!!! ick! that was one smart slug to crawl into S & T's gift bag. i'm afraid i would have rolled down the window and prayed that he sprout wings. (if anything gets long and slender in my direction i panic for REALS!!!)

mel, i'm already grossed out! : ) if/when i come over for dinner i'm bringing mitty to check the food. she's gonna go outside now and practice her slug sniffing

okay, Happy Tuesday everyone. Don't forget to vote.

Oh my gosh you girls cracked me up while I was on the train! Talking about the slug and various slug body parts and then calling me out on top of all that... People must have thought I was looney! HAHA So anyhoo... yes, to confirm what Mel said, those are slug eyes on top of the optical tentacles. And the "mouth" part is not actually the mouth but the sensory tentacles. The mouth is underneath. Who knew slugs had so many tentacles?? Almos' like one squid yea?

I had my own little encounter with the unexpected creature this weekend too. I was finishing up the yardwork at my mom's and as I was watering the rosemary I saw a bright green thing scrambling out from where I had just watered and I thought it was a grasshopper. When I really focused on it I saw that it was a real live praying mantis! In all my years growing up there I have never seen one. I didn't think they existed in our area. It was so cute though because as it was drying off from its unexpected shower on top of the rosemary it was totally keeping an eye on me as I moved around it, first to get a picture and then to finish up with the watering. I could see it's little head with the BIG eyes swiveling around following me all the while with it's front legs in the praying position. So awesome! :)

Ok so we all know how I don't like the "cold" weather...but I must say that I can't wait for all the cold weather cuisine! Butternut squash soup, tortilla soup, stews, all the baking, etc. I think I've got some vegan frosted spice cupcakes lined up and yes, definitely banana bread (although that is so not vegan!). :)

Well, happy rainy Tuesday everyone! I hope not all of you have to stand on a rainy, windy train platform today...

oh! I thought one of the biggest myths would be that vegetarians are skinny peeps. Fast-food vegeheads, IMHO, tend to be heavier because of the dense, hi-processed, sodium laden carbs... I was a fast-food vegehead until I got into a raw diet (thanks to Rocky Rabbit). Weight fell off in days and I felt more energetic. Thanks for the info! I've added some flash-cooked veggies to burst the cells and make the nutrients more available.

DW agrees that Hawaii is the melting pot for "foodies". Such a delightful diversity of flavorful foods! waah! I wasn't granted the foodie fairy gene in this lifetime! It takes me forever to maneuver the kitchen. sigh... poor DW; she has to wait on our annual visit to Hawaii.

I think we have more toads and frogs this year; ... not many slugs with eyes on stalks in my garden. My turtles are truly disappointed.

Praying mantes are cool! I was startled by one that was about nine inches long!! Actually, I was more freaked than startled!! It was while I was pruning a hedge; had it not moved, it would've been pruned as I thought it was part of a branch!

9 INCHES??? Wow! I was yelling for my mom to come take a look at my little 4" mantis. I think we both would have freaked in an oddly fascinated way if the bugger was 9 FREAKIN' INCHES!!! Hoooweeeee!

I've always been intrigued with the notion of a vegetarian diet. But I can't get past the occasional need for that rare steak. I mean, I seriously don't eat a lot of meat on a daily basis, not even chicken & fish... but mostly because it's only me and I don't like cooking if it's just me. You know what? It's probably just that mental block of me craving something once I tell myself it's off my diet... That's it. It must be in my head. I'm a mental case! LOL

    hey myra & camme!,

mitty had a praying manits encounter this weekend too! "Mr. Mantis" came over for lunch and just kinda hung out on the window...we just posted the photos on the Community site. : )

he was about a 5 incher and very friendly : )

    peace all.

    ohimgoodness, people! comparing mantis sizes!!

and speaking of toads, camme, and this is another visual you won't be able to shake ... a few years back i was at a friend's house in kalihi. they had a tall coconut tree in their front yard, no paving, dirt driveway. no lights too, only ambient light from nearby street lamps. i drove in and was waiting for my friend to come out of the house and started kicking da baby coconuts which had fallen to the ground. skippin' around, kicking all these different sized coconuts. i was wearing hiking boots so neva bodda me. kicking da baby coconuts into a pile. i spocked a pretty good size one so i did a running kick to get it into the pile and it flubbed & tumbled over to the pile like a deflated football, no air inside. when i went over to look at it, why it flumbled that way, it stretched out one arm at a time and crawled away! BUGGAH WAS A TOAD! ew!! i kicked a toad! was an accident, really, i neva know was one toad! thot it was a baby coconut!!

anyway ... missed out on the act of compassion there. i touch toads only by accident too -- and that was an accident!

    happy aloha wednesday, everyone!
